4 Waterside Activities to Add to Your 2021 Bucket List

One of our favorite parts of kicking off the new year is creating a ‘bucket list’ filled with exciting places to go and things to do in 2021. It’s filled with goals that we try to accomplish to make the year that much more memorable.

When you live in Wellen Park, you have access to an abundance of places to make the year better than you could have even planned — and it’s the close proximity to waterside fun to thank for that.

From Senator Bob Johnson’s Landing to Casperson Beach and more, we’re sharing a few of our favorite must-see places and activities in and around the water here in Southwest Florida to make your entire year.

Create an amazing bucket list that is actually achievable right around our Wellen Park community with these four waterside destinations and activities.

Senator Bob Johnson’s Landing

Located on the Myakka River and a quick drive down the road from Wellen Park, you can find Senator Bob Johnson’s Landing. Equipped with paved and unpaved trails, grills, and boardwalk over wetlands, it’s a great space outside of the Wellen Park community to explore more Southwest Florida nature.

Senator Bob Johnson’s Landing also features a canoe and kayak launch along the river, which is a must-add to your 2021 plans. Because it’s so close to our Wellen Park neighborhoods, you can quickly pack up the car, grab your canoe or kayak, and head out for a day of fun on the water — fish, bird, and sunbathe the day away.

Brohard Beach and Paw Park

It wouldn’t be right to exclude your fur bestie from your 2021 fun, so we’ve added Brohard Beach and Paw Park to our list of must-do things this year. As the only beach in Sarasota County that allows your dog on the beach with you, it’s truly a special day for you (and your pup!) to play together in the sand and Gulf.

Open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk, take advantage of amenities like picnic tables, benches, showers, human and dog drinking fountains, fire hydrants, leash posts, and more.

Venice Fishing Pier

Whether you’re looking to fish or simply have a relaxing afternoon over the water, Venice Fishing Pier is a can’t-miss experience here in Venice. Just a quick 20-minute drive from Wellen Park, the 720-foot, newly renovated pier stands tall over the crashing waves of the Gulf below.

It’s a great spot for catching fish or the sunset, and even features fish cleaning stations and Papa’s Bait Shop halfway down the pier for rental rods, live bait, and quick snacks.

Extend your day overlooking the water at Sharky’s On The Pier for a delicious meal and great drinks. Venice Fishing Pier is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with free admission.

Caspersen Beach

A short trip away from Wellen Park, and one you just can’t miss this year, make your way to Caspersen Beach to create a magical day for the entire family. Open from 6 a.m. to midnight, the sparkling Gulf and white sand beaches aren’t the only reasons to make the trip over from Wellen Park. The beach is covered with shark teeth that make for a fun scavenger hunt and great souvenir to take home.
