The Paw-fect Itinerary for National Dog Day

At Wellen Park, we’re all about treating our furresidents like VIPs (very important pups) every day! When it comes to National Dog Day, however, we know these good doggos deserve the extra mile. We’ve put together ev-furry-thing you can do around Wellen Park to help you treat them to a paw-fect day. 

Stop #1: West Villages Animal Clinic 

Before we chase our tail from the excitement of the day ahead, it’s im-paw-tent to show fido our love by taking a quick visit to the vet. Located on Mercado Drive, West Villages Animal Clinic is open Monday through Friday for all of your veterinary needs. From dentistry to microchipping to wellness, be sure your dog is feeling healthy and ready to take on the day!

Stop #2: Blue Heron Dog Park

Before leaving the neighborhood, take a frisbee and run (don’t walk!) over to Blue Heron Dog Park. Open from dawn to dusk, this 33-acre property contains two Bark Parks that feature large and small dog areas, doggie drink fountains, shade structures, and plenty of space to roam. These wide-open green spaces and pet-friendly amenities will have your pooch smiling (tongue-out, of course) from ear to ear!

Stop #3: Brohard Paw Park

Dig into the world’s largest puppy sandbox at Brohard Paw Park—you don’t even have to clean up the sandy mess! Just a short road trip away from Wellen Park, this is the only beach area in the county where all good dogs are welcome. This beach and dog park feature dog and human drinking fountains, fire hydrants, puppy showers, and leash posts! Let your pup dip their paw in the ocean and shake out all the good vibes from the day.

Stop #4: Old Salty Dog Venice

On your way back home to Wellen Park, stop by the Old Salty Dog Venice to chow down on one of their famous “Salty Dog” hot dogs. Their spacious outdoor deck allows for social distancing and is Venice Herald Tribune Reader’s Choice 2020 for the best waterfront view! They are currently open at 50% capacity, but a quick visit with your pup might just score them a feature on their Instagram page or Dog Blog!
