Wellen Park celebrates the spirit of Oktoberfest Sept. 28 in Downtown Wellen

VENICE, Fla. (Aug. 12, 2024) – Cue the oompahs and accordions, roll out the barrels, grab your lederhosen and get ready to strut your stuff during the “Chicken Dance.” Oktoberfest is coming to Wellen Park!

The inaugural event is Saturday, Sept. 28, noon to 8 p.m. on the Great Lawn in Downtown Wellen. Celebrating beer and brats, pretzels and polka, and time-honored Bavarian traditions, Oktoberfest also features dancers, a live polka band, a stein-hoisting competition and entertainment on the Solis Hall stage throughout the day.

“Oktoberfest celebrations are always energetic, entertaining and engaging,” said Christine Masney, vice president of marketing for Wellen Park. “In a nutshell, they’re the essence of Wellen Park and our vibrant fun-filled lifestyle.”

Free and open to the public, the family-friendly festival transforms the Great Lawn into a quintessential Oktoberfest atmosphere nestled along downtown’s 80-acre Grand Lake. Table seating on the Great Lawn is limited and is reserved on a first come basis. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. Entertainment begins at noon with DJ Jessie Rodriguez spinning tunes until 4 p.m. German dancers perform 2 to 4 p.m. Then, it’s all-out polka as the DeLeon Oktoberfest Band takes the stage 4 to 8 p.m. The lively family festival-style ensemble includes three generations of accordionists and has performed at Florida’s biggest Oktoberfest events.

In addition to traditional German food offered by Wellen Park restaurants, Oktoberfest attendees will also discover a variety of cuisine at Downtown Wellen restaurants, including Italian, seafood, steak, pizza, ice cream, gourmet coffee and fusion as well as New England, American and ballpark favorites available in The Yard. Guests can also take advantage of Wellen Park’s Sip & Stroll program. Attendees are welcome to purchase alcoholic beverages from participating restaurants and walk around Downtown Wellen freely. No outside coolers or alcoholic beverages are permitted. Downtown also offers boutique stores and abundant outdoor recreation, including parklike gathering areas, a splashpad, a three-mile nature trail, and fishing and paddling on Grand Lake.
