Craft-concept Foxtail Coffee coming to Downtown Wellen

VENICE, Fla. (Oct. 18, 2022) – Wellen Park is expanding its assorted mix of Downtown Wellen restaurants and retailers with its newest addition, Foxtail Coffee Co. The Florida-based coffee shop company was founded with two simple principles in mind: offering the freshest roasted coffee from around the world and having an inviting, comfortable environment for guests.

The Downtown Wellen location is franchise-owned by Jesse Davis, a franchise partner for Foxtail Coffee, and this will be his third location. The design for each location differs, but the coffee shops typically feature combinations of exposed beam ceilings, subway tiles, distressed wood and industrial-style fixtures to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. According to Davis, each location’s individual style is inspired by the local community.

“The Foxtail brand is about bringing community together, providing a place to spend time, bring a laptop, a book, meet friends or have a meeting,” Davis said. “You can come in and grab a coffee to go or stay for a while. We love the idea of Downtown Wellen as a destination for people to spend time and that Foxtail Coffee is one of the reasons you keep coming back.”

Foxtail Coffee was founded in 2016 in Winter Park, Fla., a suburb of Orlando, by lifelong friends Alex Tchekmeian and Iain Yeakle, two lifelong friends who met years ago in South Florida while in the same kindergarten class. Their close friendship over the years led to a great opportunity in 2016 to combine their varied business and coffee experience and create Foxtail Coffee Co., a neighborhood cafe. Believing coffee should be purposeful, celebrated and enjoyed, Tchekmeian and Yeakle built a company that approaches producing coffee as a craft and serving coffee as a celebration. Most of Foxtail’s 41 locations are in the greater Orlando market, with additional locations in the Tampa Bay, Jacksonville, and Miami areas, as well one in as Newnan, Georgia.

All coffees are ethically sourced and exclusively selected from small organic local farms in Ethiopia, Mexico, Columbia and Honduras. The company roasts several varieties in their Winter Park warehouse, where they also keg cold brew and supply wholesale coffee to restaurants. Foxtail coffee is also bagged and sold by the pound in their cafes.

“Foxtail is very family-oriented and so are we,” said Davis, who operates the Wellen Park location and two others with his wife, sister and brother-in-law.

The Downtown Wellen cafe will span nearly 1,660 square feet and offer indoor and outdoor seating, with decor, murals and artwork echoing the beauty of both the Venice and North Port areas. As a craft cafe and interactive community space, Foxtail will also offer seating at a bar where customers can interact with the baristas and watch their drinks being made – everything from lattes to cappuccinos, macchiatos, cortados and more. For coffee purists, a myriad of brew styles will be offered, such as French press, Aeropress, siphon and pour-over. Cold brew and nitro cold brew will also be available.

“We want you to experience the show, stay awhile and get to know us and your local baristas,” Davis said.

Foxtail Coffee will also serve beer and wine, sweet treats and morning and afternoon bar bites, as well as live entertainment. Expected to open in early 2023, the coffee shop will be open daily 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. To learn more about Foxtail Coffee, visit www.foxtailcoffee.com or find them on Facebook or Instagram.

Located off U.S. 41 just west of South River Road, the pedestrian-friendly downtown features an array of restaurants, retail stores and other businesses.  Downtown’s playful outdoor environment, The Yard offers a dining area, games and activities, and ultra-casual food and beverage choices served counter style from retrofitted shipping containers.

The 80-acre Grand Lake creates a scenic backdrop throughout Downtown Wellen and offers a floating dock and recreational activities, including fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding with rentals available at Kind Vibes Outfitters. The outfitter will also rent bicycles and e-bikes for exploring the 2.8-mile walking, cycling and jogging trail circling the lake.

Emphasizing connections to nature and community, Downtown Wellen offers unique outdoor experiences in thoughtfully designed spaces – from intimate parks and an al fresco living room shaded by decades-old relocated live oak trees to larger locales like the Great Lawn for community festivals, markets, celebrations and events and the lakefront fountain and splashpad, complete with whirling waterjets. Solis Hall, an elegant rental venue, features an outdoor stage, a lakefront patio and an easy flow from inside spaces to neighboring alfresco destinations.

Consistently ranked among the U.S.’s top-selling communities annually by prominent real estate consulting firm RCLCO, Wellen Park’s expanding residential choices include single-family homes in picturesque neighborhoods, a bundled golf and country club community, paired villas, coach homes and condominiums, one- to three-bedroom apartments and rental homes, a rental apartment community for active adults 55 and older, and world-class independent, assisted living and memory care.
