Wellen Park to host family-friendly Fishing Rodeo event, May 3

Wellen Park invites families, outdoor enthusiasts and anglers of all ages to grab their gear and head to the water for the inaugural Wellen Park Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon in Downtown Wellen. Presented by BB Living and in partnership with Stocking Savvy, this community-focused event promises a full day of fishing fun, friendly competition and waterfront excitement at one of the region’s most scenic outdoor destinations.

Set against the beautiful backdrop of Downtown Wellen’s Grand Lake, the event encourages shore fishing and non-motorized watercraft only. Participants will compete for cash prizes across two categories: Biggest Fish (by length) and Most Invasive Species Caught (by weight/number). The winners in the Biggest Fish category will receive $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. In the Most Invasive Species category, winners will take home $250 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place. From experienced anglers to those just learning to cast, this event is designed to welcome all skill levels.

“The Fishing Rodeo is a great example of how we use our natural spaces to bring people together,” said Rick Severance, president of Wellen Park. “It’s a fun and impactful way to enjoy the outdoors, engage with neighbors and promote conservation.”
